"Step One, you say we need to talk... he walks, you say 'sit down, it's just a talk.' He smiles politely back at you...you stare poiltely, right on through. Some sort of window to your right. As he goes left and you stay right....between the lines of fear and blame, and you begin to wonder why you came."
The Fray wrote that for me. Or maybe not. Perhaps we all feel that about some instances in our lives.
There is one scene of my life that immediately comes to mind when I hear that song. It sounds so simple, right? "We need to talk." It could be about anything. But for some reason, it's usually never too good. And those words will forever bear a very negative connotation for me. Followed by the "sit down, it's just a talk." It's amazing how much one "talk" can change your life. Your life can change 100% from one small talk. Mine did. And as much as I thought it was the end, it was a beginning.
I looked around for an out and kept on looking. Beyond that talk. Wondering why I came? Why I left chemistry class for that talk? Why I walked to the quiet area? Why I came.....
Relationships change. They ebb and flow, begin, change, and end. Relationships are colored with feelings. One talk can begin, change, or end a relationship. For better or for worse. Some things are inevitable. Some things are avoidable.
The things that we value the most can be stripped away from us in an instant. Why does it take so long to rebuild what's been lost?
Sit down, it's just a talk...
